Future Of Robotics And 3D Bioprinting On The Agenda As MBRF Prepares To Hold Knowledge Summit 2017

Robotics, 3D bioprinting of tissues and organs and many other advancements brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) are on the agenda as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) is preparing to host the fourth annual Knowledge Summit on November 21-22, 2017, at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, and the directives of MBRF Chairman HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the 2017 Summit bears the theme “Knowledge and the Fourth Industrial Revolution” and is set to discuss diverse aspects of the 4IR including the challenges and ways to overcome them.

Throughout the Summit, the Foundation aims to shed light on the impact of the 4IR in various fields, especially the medical, technology, economic and media sectors. The Summit will also discuss the engines of the fourth Industrial Revolution and the exceptional advancements that have made it so significant to the history of humanity and a major path towards the sustainable development of communities.

His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of the MBRF, said that The Knowledge Summit 2017 aims to keep pace with the UAE Government’s plans to take advantage of the prospects and opportunities presented by the fourth Industrial Revolution: “The event will bring together a number of decision makers, experts and specialists to discuss the ground-breaking 4IR technologies, their dimensions and their role in the decision-making process, as well as its profound effect on human life from a social, economic and knowledge point of view.”

Meanwhile, Saif Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Organizational Committee for the Knowledge Summit 2017, said that the Foundation has set an extensive agenda of discussions for the event. “We are highlighting the most pertinent topics that are of interest to the knowledge industry in the region and the world,” he said, “as the Fourth Industrial Revolution has a profound impact on all aspects of life, and plays a major part in building the knowledge economy. The Summit will serve as an integrated platform to discuss the main engines of the 4IR and the challenges and opportunities for individuals and nations.”

On the first day, the Summit will go into the aspects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as its impact on decision-making and on how to prepare to meet its requirements and address the challenges. The sessions will move on to the impact of the fourth Industrial Revolution in the field of media, which has become accessible to all, and the emergence of “citizen journalism”. Also to be discussed are the challenges in cybersecurity and measures to address piracy. The pillars of the 4IR, such as big data, the Internet of Things (IoT) and nanotechnology will also be discussed.

On the second and final day, the Knowledge Summit will discuss the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the healthcare sector with topics including 3D printing and its potential in printing human organs. The sessions will discuss genetic modification and its role in re-engineering cells, as well as techniques of digital surgery and the development of medical technologies to treat prevalent diseases. Furthermore, experts will examine how legal systems will cope with the Revolution’s tremendous speed and scale.

The results of the World Knowledge Index – developed in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to monitor the realities of knowledge globally – will be announced at the event. The importance of the index and its methodologies, as well as the UNDP’s role in the dissemination of knowledge will also be explored.

Other sessions will focus on artificial intelligence, the future of robotics and the future of the economy in relation to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as the emergence of virtual currencies and the impact of the Revolution on job creation.

The Knowledge Summit aims to provide a comprehensive global platform that brings together decision makers, thinkers, experts and knowledge leaders along with scientists, academics and professionals from all around the world to discuss critical issues and challenges facing the industry, as well as the dissemination of knowledge. The event will also review best practices and experiences and aim to present innovative solutions to meet the challenges of the future.
