Bahrain’s central position in the Gulf, the opening of the King Fahad Causeway to Saudi Arabia and the modernisation of the international airport have all encouraged the expansion of the hotel industry and reasonable room rates.

Some of the best rooms in the city are found in the Regency Inter-Continental (King Faisal Highway, tel 227 777). The Gulf Hotel (Bani Otbah Avenue, tel 713 000) has Internet access via televisions in the bedrooms and has recently completed a huge renovation of its lobby and front entrance. The Sheraton Bahrain (Old Palace Avenue, tel 533 533) and the Bahrain Hilton (Old Palace Avenue, tel 535 000) are located opposite each other near the coast. A cheaper business option is the Ramada (Gudaibiya Avenue, tel 714 921), which overlooks the Grand Mosque.
